Rimu, a curly-coated retriever, has been reunited with her owner after going missing when a yacht capsized off Whananaki on December 30.

The dog was spotted at Cabbage Tree Bay in Matapouri on Saturday, still wearing her life jacket. Locals and spearfishers helped coax her to safety with food and water before she was returned to her owner.

The yacht had struck Elizabeth Reef in rough seas. The skipper was rescued at the time, and the community celebrated Rimu’s safe return.
